Complete with its original scabbard, hilt is solid brass, grip is leather wrapped in copper wire. This is a French General or Staff Officer straight court sword from the late 1800's, unsigned, found in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Hilt is ornate with flowers and leaves. Total length in its scabbard is 35", without scabbard 34", blade only 28". Tip of the scabbard has an emblem: 4 arrows, 2 wings and a snake. The guard has none. Both the scabbard's brass rings and top opening bare the hand engraved number "89". Sword was used for court ceremonies and has no edge. It may also have been used by a masonic organization.
